AI (Artificial Intelligence) Policy
Bayçınar Medical Publishing recognizes the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly research and publishing. While AI technologies may support authors and editors in certain aspects of manuscript preparation and evaluation, their use must be transparent, responsible, and ethically sound.
Acceptable Use of AI Tools
AI tools may be used by authors to assist with language editing, grammar correction, formatting, or improving readability, provided that the scientific content, interpretation, and conclusions remain the authors’ own work.
AI tools must not replace human judgment, originality, or accountability in research and scholarly writing.
Prohibited Use of AI
AI tools must not be used to:
- Generate original research data or results
- Fabricate, falsify, or manipulate data
- Create or alter images, figures, or graphs in a misleading manner
- Generate entire manuscripts or substantial scientific content without human authorship
- Impersonate peer reviewers or editors
Any misuse of AI that compromises research integrity is considered unethical.
Authorship and Accountability
Artificial Intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship implies responsibility and accountability, which can only be assumed by human researchers.
Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content submitted, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools.
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscripts, including the name and purpose of the tool used. Disclosure should be included in the manuscript, typically in the acknowledgments or methods section, where appropriate.
Failure to disclose AI use may result in editorial action.
AI Use in Peer Review and Editorial Processes
Reviewers and editors must not use AI tools to upload, analyze, or share submitted manuscripts in ways that compromise confidentiality or intellectual property.
Editorial decisions remain the responsibility of human editors, and AI tools may only be used as supportive tools where permitted by journal policy.
Data Protection and Confidentiality
The use of AI tools must comply with data protection, privacy, and confidentiality requirements. Manuscripts under review must not be shared with AI systems that store, reuse, or train on submitted content without explicit permission.
Ethical Oversight and Misconduct
Any concerns related to the unethical use of AI, including undisclosed or inappropriate use, are investigated in accordance with COPE guidelines. Confirmed violations may result in rejection, retraction, or other corrective actions.
Policy Review and Updates
Given the rapidly evolving nature of AI technologies, this policy is subject to regular review and updates to reflect emerging standards, risks, and best practices.
Commitment to Responsible AI Use
By establishing clear guidelines for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, Bayçınar Medical Publishing aims to balance innovation with ethical responsibility, ensuring trust, transparency, and integrity in scholarly publishing.
